Note: 1 small gloved handful contains approximately 25 g.
Direct Planting:
Use before planting between February and April. Apply 140 g/m2 (4 oz/sq.yd) over the vacant plot and lightly fork into the soil.
Planting:
Dig a trench with a spade 10-15 cm (4-6 in) deep. Place seed potatoes in the trench 30 cm (12 in) apart, with the shoots uppermost. After planting cover the seed potatoes by pulling the soil from either side of the trench to form a ridge above.
Potato Barrels and Other Planters:
Seed potatoes can be grown in any container larger than 30 cm (12 in) wide and 30 cm (12 in deep). Good drainage is essential. Use multipurpose compost or a soil-based John Innes No.2 compost. Place several seed potatoes 15 cm (6 in) below the container rim. Fill to the rim with compost that contains added Organic Potato & Vegetable Fertiliser.
Apply Vitax Organic Potato & Vegetable Fertiliser at a rate of 140 g/m2 (4 oz/sq.yd). This is equivalent, for typical pot sizes, to:
30 cm (12 in) diameter pot – 10 g
38 cm (15 in) diameter pot – 15 g
50 cm (20 in) diameter pot – 30 g
Place the containers in a sunny position and water during the summer months. Protect the plants from frost to prevent damage.
Vigorous crops (Tomatoes, courgettes):
Prior to planting or sowing work granules into the soil at 140 g/m2 (4 oz/sq.yd). Top dress at 70 g/m2 (2 oz/sq.yd) sprinkled evenly between the rows twice during the growing season.
Medium vigour vegetables (Beetroot, carrots, parsnips, leeks and onions):
Prior to planting or sowing work granules into the soil at 140 g/m2 (4 oz/sq.yd).
