Parkinsonia aculeata, commonly known as the Jerusalem Thorn Tree, is a graceful and fast-growing desert tree with fine foliage, green branches, and an airy, sculptural shape. Its delicate yellow flowers add seasonal colour, while its open canopy brings character and light shade to outdoor landscapes.

A naturally heat-tolerant choice for Kuwait, it is well suited to gardens, farms, driveways, courtyards, and larger landscape projects. Plant it in the ground where it has room to develop its attractive form and mature canopy.

Care Guide

Keep this tree outdoors in a position with full sun and plenty of airflow. Plant it in well-draining soil and avoid areas where water collects, as consistently wet soil can damage the roots.

Water deeply whenever the upper few centimetres of soil become dry. During the first growing season and Kuwait’s hottest months, monitor young trees closely and water more frequently when needed. Once established, Parkinsonia aculeata is drought-tolerant and should be allowed to dry between waterings.

Apply mulch around the root zone to help protect the soil and reduce moisture loss, keeping the mulch away from the trunk. Feed lightly with a balanced slow-release fertiliser in spring if growth appears weak. Prune dead, damaged, or crossing branches as needed, taking care around the tree’s thorns.
